| In 1983 while in our 20’s,
we wanted to move to the country. At a time in our life when
we had the option to chose wherever we wanted to live, Northeast Connecticut’s
beauty and economic diversity appealed to us. Today we own a
real estate company called Northeast Realty. In 1990, during
a downturn in the real estate market, the company we worked for closed
two of its three offices (and eventually the third). As residents
of Woodstock, we registered the trade name Northeast Realty at town
hall, and commenced business working out of our home. The following
year with a very tiny budget, we opened an office located abutting
in the neighboring town Union (Connecticut’s smallest town-
population 660). At first, we didn’t belong to a computerized
multiple listing service because of the costs. When people would
ask, can you fax me some information, we would reply, no we can’t-
because we don’t have a fax! But a few years later we
did join a multiple listing service. We bought a fax.
We joined another MLS. We bought a franchise. In 2000
we opened our office in neighboring Pomfret. We later opened
an office in Oxford, MA.
